ChatGPT Plus vs Pro: What Each Plan Includes
The ChatGPT pricing page lists four individual tiers. Plus is the step that unlocks the GPT-6 reasoning models, Projects and deep research; Pro is the step that widens the context window and adds an always-on agent. Here is every row of the comparison table that separates them, read on October 10, 2026.
This article is a documentation review: it is based on the vendors' own published pages, checked on the date shown. We may earn a commission from some links; it never affects what we recommend.
Plus is the tier that unlocks the GPT-6 reasoning models, Projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs and full deep research. Pro keeps all of that and adds a wider context window, a choice of three usage tiers, an always-on agent called Dot and unlimited image creation. Neither tier includes admin controls, single sign-on or a shared workspace; those sit on Business and Enterprise. This guide reads the official ChatGPT pricing page as checked on October 10, 2026, and reports what the comparison table actually says. Where the page gives no figure, it says so.
Start with the four individual tiers the page lists
The ChatGPT pricing page lists Free, Go, Plus and Pro for individuals, plus Business and Enterprise for organisations. The page's own FAQ states that Business plans are available starting at 2 users.
Free is described as unlimited text chats with GPT-6, with limited messages for uploads, image creation, voice chats, deep research, memory and Codex access. Go is positioned as "Best for longer conversations" and carries a notice that the plan "may include ads."
Plus is positioned as "Best for advanced work and productivity." Pro is positioned as "Best for research and coding" and is listed with a "From" price, because the page says Pro buyers get "Your choice of 3 usage tiers."
That structure matters when comparing vendors. Anthropic sells a similar ladder, described in our note on Claude Free, Pro and Max plans, where tiers are sold as multiples of a five-hour usage window instead of named feature sets.
Plus is the step that unlocks the reasoning models
The comparison table is blunt about model access. GPT-6.1 Sol, GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol are marked "No" on both Free and Go, "Yes" on Plus and "Expanded" on Pro. Only GPT-6 Luna and GPT-5 Thinking Mini reach the free tier.
Legacy models are marked available on Plus and Pro only. GPT-5.6 Sol Pro is marked "Yes" on Pro alone, and the three GPT-5.6 rows that show "Unlimited*" appear only in the Pro column.
Several whole features arrive at Plus rather than Go. Sites, interactive tables and charts, image generation with Thinking, developer mode in beta, ChatGPT record mode and apps connecting to internal tools are all marked "No" for Free and Go.
Deep research is the clearest divide. The table marks it "Limited" for both Free and Go, then "Yes" for Plus and Pro. The same pattern applies to apps for deep research. Buyers who use research reports daily are paying for Plus to remove that cap.
- Free: GPT-6 Luna and GPT-5 Thinking Mini, limited uploads, limited deep research, limited memory, 27K GPT Instant context window.
- Go: adds more messages, uploads, voice and longer memory, 54K GPT Instant context window, may include ads, no reasoning models.
- Plus: adds GPT-6 reasoning models, Projects, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, Sites, record mode, full deep research, fast response times.
- Pro: adds three usage tiers, GPT-6 Astra Pro reasoning, Dot the always-on agent, unlimited image creation, 128K GPT Instant and 400K reasoning context.
- Business and Enterprise: the only tiers where the admin, SSO, SCIM and compliance rows stop reading "No."
Read the context window rows before paying for Pro
The sharpest Plus-to-Pro difference is input size. The page lists the GPT Instant total context window at 27K for Free, 54K for Go, 54K for Plus and 128K for Pro. Plus and Go share the same figure here.
Translated into pages by the vendor itself, the GPT Instant input maximum reads about 12 pages of text on Free, about 40 pages on Go and Plus, and about 250 pages on Pro. That is roughly a six-fold increase in what you can paste.
For reasoning models the figures are 256K on Go and Plus against 400K on Pro, described as about 320 pages against about 680 pages. Free simply reads "Varies."
The page adds a footnote worth reading twice: the portion of the window available for user input is smaller than the total, because space is also used for system instructions, memories and internal processing. The page calls its page estimates an approximation.
So the honest test for Pro is document size, not enthusiasm. If your work means pasting contracts, transcripts or codebases above 40 pages, Pro is the only individual tier that holds them.
Our note on free plan limits at Otter and Fathom makes the same point about meeting transcripts, and what AI image credits actually buy shows the pattern in picture tools.
Pro adds agents and speed, not administration
Pro's plan card lists longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, maximum deep research, maximum memory and context, expanded projects and tasks, and a research preview of new features.
Dot, described on the page as "your always-on agent," is marked "Yes" on Pro and "No" on every other individual tier. It is the one named product that only Pro buyers get.
Response times are listed as "Limited on bandwidth & availability" for Free and Go, "Fast" for Plus and "Ultrafast (on eligible tiers)" for Pro. The qualifier matters, since Pro itself contains three usage tiers.
What Pro does not buy is governance. SAML SSO, unified billing, dedicated workspace, admin console, SCIM, IP allowlisting, data residency and audit tooling are all marked "No" across Free, Go, Plus and Pro alike.
A second footnote states that "Enterprise and Business can purchase credits for more access." That is a different billing model: a seat fee plus purchasable capacity.
It sits closer to the credit meters described in how AI credits work across Jasper, Copy.ai, Synthesia and Pictory than to the flat individual tiers above it.
Expect the price you see to follow your location
One limitation of this guide should be stated plainly. The pricing page serves currency based on the viewer's region, so the figures it returns are local.
Read from our location on October 10, 2026, it priced Free at 0, Go at 132,000, Plus at 522,500 and Pro at "From" 2,849,000, all in Vietnamese dong.
Because no dollar figures appeared on the page we could read, this guide quotes none. Readers in the United States should confirm the dollar price in checkout rather than trust a third-party number, including ours.
The ratios are still informative. By editorial calculation from those local figures, Plus costs about four times Go, and the entry Pro tier costs about five and a half times Plus. That gap is why the context window rows deserve the attention.
The page also notes a free plan for verified United States K-12 educators through June 2027, and up to a 75 percent nonprofit discount on Business or Enterprise. Both require verification through OpenAI rather than a self-serve checkout.
Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT Plus enough, or do I need Pro?
Plus is enough for most individual work: it unlocks the GPT-6 reasoning models, Projects, custom GPTs and full deep research. Pro matters mainly for context size, since its GPT Instant input maximum is about 250 pages against about 40 on Plus.
What is the difference between ChatGPT Go and Plus?
Go adds more messages, uploads, voice and memory but leaves the GPT-6 reasoning models, Projects, Sites and full deep research locked. Go also carries a notice that it may include ads, per the pricing page checked October 10, 2026.
Does ChatGPT Pro include admin controls for a team?
No. SAML SSO, admin console, SCIM, unified billing and data residency are marked unavailable on Free, Go, Plus and Pro. Business, which the page says starts at 2 users, is the first tier with those controls.
How many usage tiers does ChatGPT Pro have?
Three. The plan card lists "Your choice of 3 usage tiers," which is why the price is shown with a "From" prefix. The page does not publish the message counts attached to each of the three tiers.
Why does this guide not list dollar prices?
The pricing page localises currency by region. Read on October 10, 2026, it returned Vietnamese dong, so no dollar figures were available to quote. Confirm the dollar price in checkout before subscribing.
Bottom line
Buy Plus for capability and Pro for capacity. Plus removes the model and feature locks that make Free and Go feel arbitrary. Pro removes the input ceiling, which is a narrower problem that fewer people actually have.
If several people need shared billing or security controls, neither tier applies; Business is the first plan where those rows change. Re-check the page before buying, because every figure here is as of October 10, 2026.
