Notion AI Pricing: What It Adds to a Seat
Notion AI is not sold as a separate subscription any more. It is bundled into the seat price, which is why Business costs $20 per member against $10 for Plus, and premium model usage is metered on top at $10 per 1,000 Notion credits. Here is what each plan includes, read from Notion's own pages on October 10, 2026.
This article is a documentation review: it is based on the vendors' own published pages, checked on the date shown. We may earn a commission from some links; it never affects what we recommend.
Notion AI is bundled into the seat, not sold beside it.
Free and Plus members get a trial of the AI features; the Business plan at $20 per member per month is the first tier where Notion's documentation says AI is actually available, and Enterprise adds zero data retention.
Premium models work on a separate meter billed at $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits. What Notion does not publish is how many credits each plan includes.
This guide reads the pricing page, the AI pricing page and the Notion AI FAQ, all checked October 10, 2026.
The seat price is where the AI charge now lives
As of October 10, 2026, the pricing page lists Free at $0 per member per month, Plus at $10, Business at $20 and Enterprise at custom pricing requiring a sales conversation. Annual billing is offered with "up to 20% savings."
The page does not print the discounted annual per-seat figure beside each plan. By editorial calculation, a full 20 percent off Business would be $16 per member per month, but the wording is "up to," so verify the number in checkout.
The important structural point is that there is no separate AI subscription line. Buyers comparing Notion against standalone assistants should treat the $10 gap between Plus and Business as the AI price, plus collaboration and admin features.
By editorial calculation, a ten-person team on Business pays $200 per month, or $2,400 a year on monthly billing. The same team on Plus pays $1,200 and, per Notion's own documentation, does not have Notion AI beyond a trial.
Free and Plus get a trial, not the product
The pricing page marks the AI row on Free and Plus as "Trial of Notion AI," covering the ability to "Chat about anything, generate and edit docs, autofill databases, and find answers across your Notion workspace."
Two sub-features are marked more tightly still: meeting notes and Enterprise Search are both listed as "Limited Trial" on those tiers.
The help documentation is blunter than the pricing page. It states that "Notion AI is available on Business and Enterprise Plans," and that Free and Plus users receive "a limited number of complimentary AI responses" to try the features.
Those two statements should be read together. The pricing page sells a trial; the FAQ says the product belongs to the paid tiers. Neither page publishes how many complimentary responses a trial includes.
- Free: $0 per member, trial of Notion AI, limited trial of meeting notes and Enterprise Search.
- Plus: $10 per member, same AI trial status as Free, with more collaboration features.
- Business: $20 per member, Notion AI available, Notion Agent, automatic meeting transcription and summary, Enterprise Search in beta, 30 day retention.
- Enterprise: custom pricing, everything in Business plus zero data retention with Notion's LLM providers.
- Custom agents add-on: free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits on paid plans.

Business is the tier that buys the agent
The feature that separates Business is not chat. It is the Notion Agent, described on the pricing page as something that "does work for you" and "Completes complex, multi-step tasks."
Business also turns meeting notes from a limited trial into a working feature, described as automatic transcription "along with a helpful summary." Teams buying Notion for that reason should compare the dedicated tools in Otter versus Fathom free plan limits.
Enterprise Search is listed as a beta on Business. A feature in beta on the tier that costs twice as much is worth testing during a trial rather than budgeting around.
Data retention is the other line that moves. Business is listed with "30 day retention," while Enterprise is described as having zero data retention because "our LLM providers utilize zero data retention for Enterprise plan workspaces."
Premium models are metered at provider rates
Notion runs a second billing track for premium models. The AI pricing page states that custom agents are "Free to try, then $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits."
The FAQ explains the economics behind that figure: "Notion charges tokens at each provider's published rates, with no markup." It also warns that "Provider rates and pricing methodology are subject to change."
No-markup pricing sounds generous, and in a sense it is. The consequence is that the cost of a workspace is no longer fixed, because the underlying model prices are set by third parties and can move without a Notion price change.
Two controls exist. A workspace owner or admin must enable premium models before anyone can use them, and "admins can set how many credits each person can spend." Both should be configured before rollout, not after the first invoice.
What is missing is the allowance. The FAQ says Business and Enterprise include "a usage allowance for certain Notion AI features" without a figure, and neither page we read states credits included per plan. That gap matters more than the $10 rate.

Compare it as a bundle, not as an AI tool
Judged purely as an assistant, a $20 Notion seat is poor value against a single-product subscription. Judged as a workspace where the AI reads your own documents and databases, the comparison changes, because that context is the product.
The right question is whether your documents already live in Notion. If they do, the retrieval advantage is real. If they do not, a standalone assistant such as those compared in ChatGPT Plus versus Pro will be cheaper per seat.
The credit meter also puts Notion in the same family as the tools in how AI credits work at Jasper, Copy.ai, Synthesia and Pictory and what AI image credits actually buy, rather than the flat tiers of Claude Free, Pro and Max.

Frequently asked questions
Is Notion AI included in the Plus plan?
Only as a trial. The pricing page marks Plus with "Trial of Notion AI," and the help documentation states that Notion AI is available on Business and Enterprise plans, with Free and Plus receiving a limited number of complimentary AI responses.
How much does Notion AI cost per user?
There is no separate AI price. The cost is the step from Plus at $10 per member per month to Business at $20, plus $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits for premium model usage, per the pages checked October 10, 2026.
How many AI credits does each Notion plan include?
Notion does not publish the figure. The FAQ refers to "a usage allowance for certain Notion AI features" on Business and Enterprise without a number, so ask sales before planning around it.
Does Notion mark up the cost of premium AI models?
No. The FAQ states that Notion "charges tokens at each provider's published rates, with no markup," and adds that provider rates and pricing methodology are subject to change.
Can admins stop AI spending from running away?
Yes. Premium models must be enabled by a workspace owner or admin, and admins can set how many credits each person is allowed to spend. Configure both before a team rollout.
What does Enterprise add over Business for AI?
Data handling, principally. Business is listed with 30 day retention while Enterprise is described as having zero data retention with Notion's LLM providers. Enterprise pricing is quoted by sales rather than published.
Bottom line
Notion AI is a seat upgrade with a meter attached. The published parts are clear: $10 to $20 per member per month, and $10 per 1,000 credits for premium models at provider cost.
The unpublished part is the allowance, which is exactly the number a buyer needs. Set admin credit caps on day one, and re-check the pages before renewal, because every figure here is as of October 10, 2026.
