AI Tool Annual Billing: What the Toggle Really Saves

Almost every AI pricing page has a monthly and annual toggle with a percentage badge beside it. We took seven vendors, read both prices off each page, and did the arithmetic. Two badges were exact, three understated the real saving, and one overstated it on the plan most buyers choose. All pages read October 15, 2026.

AI Tool Annual Billing: What the Toggle Really Saves

The badge beside the annual toggle is the least reliable number on an AI pricing page. We read the monthly and annual prices off seven vendors' pages and compared each real discount with the badge next to it. Two matched exactly. Three understated the saving, one by a factor of three. One overstated it on the plan most buyers will choose. All figures are from the official pricing pages, checked October 15, 2026, and every percentage is our own calculation from the printed prices.

Two vendors print a badge that matches the arithmetic

10Web is the cleanest. Its badge claims "50% off" annually and every tier obeys: "$20" to "$10 /mo," "$30" to "$15," "$45" to "$22.5," with "Get 12 months for $120 (regular price $240)" written out in full.

Vizard matches too. Creator moves from "$29" to "$14.5 /month" under a "50% OFF" badge, and the card confirms "$174 billed yearly." Business moves from "$39" to "$19.5" with "$234 billed yearly."

OpusClip's badge is hedged and therefore accurate. It reads "Save up to 50% with annual billing," and Pro moves from "$29 USD" to "$14.5 USD /mo" at "$174 billed annually," which is exactly 50 percent.

The hedge earns its keep elsewhere on the page. OpusClip's Starter plan carries no annual option at all, stating it is "only available in monthly," so "up to" is doing real work.

Both video vendors are compared in full in OpusClip versus Vizard, where the same $174 annual price buys twice as many minutes on one as on the other.

Three vendors understate what annual billing saves

Browse AI claims "Annual Save 20%" and holds to it on one tier only. Professional moves from "$87 Per month" to "$69," which is about 20.7 percent, close enough to the badge.

Personal is a different story. The monthly column reads "$48 Per month" against "$19" on annual billing, which is about 60 percent by editorial calculation, three times what the badge advertises.

Decktopus states its saving in dollars instead of a percentage, and the dollars are right. "Save $180/yr" against a monthly price of "$24.99" and an annual charge of "$119.88" checks out exactly, and it is 60 percent off.

Beautiful.ai prints no badge at all. Pro is listed at "$14.50 /mo" billed annually, while the monthly card reads "$45" for "Everything in Pro plan (billed monthly)," a gap of about 68 percent.

Understating is the harmless direction, but it still costs the vendor sales. A buyer scanning a 20 percent badge on Browse AI has no reason to suspect the entry tier is 60 percent cheaper on a year.

One badge overstates the saving on its main plan

Durable's toggle reads "Save 15%." Its Launch plan, the one marked "Most Popular," moves from "$25/m" to "$22/m," which is 12 percent by editorial calculation.

On the tier above, the same badge understates. Grow moves from "$49/m" to "$41/m," about 16.3 percent. One badge covers two plans with two different real discounts, and neither is 15.

Three dollars a month is not a scandal. It is a reminder that the badge is marketing copy written once, while the prices in the cards are edited separately and drift apart.

The full comparison of that vendor against its closest rival sits in Durable versus 10Web, where the credit allowances differ tenfold and neither page defines a credit.

  • 10Web: badge "50% off", $20 to $10 a month on AI Starter, real discount 50.0 percent, badge exact.
  • Vizard: badge "50% OFF", $29 to $14.50 a month on Creator, real discount 50.0 percent, badge exact.
  • OpusClip: badge "Save up to 50%", $29 to $14.50 a month on Pro, real discount 50.0 percent, and Starter has no annual option.
  • Decktopus: badge "Save $180/yr", $24.99 monthly against $119.88 a year on Pro, real discount 60.0 percent, dollar figure exact.
  • Browse AI: badge "Annual Save 20%", $87 to $69 on Professional is 20.7 percent, but $48 to $19 on Personal is about 60.4 percent.
  • Beautiful.ai: no badge, $45 monthly against $14.50 a month billed annually on Pro, a gap of about 67.8 percent.
  • Durable: badge "Save 15%", $25 to $22 on Launch is 12.0 percent, while $49 to $41 on Grow is about 16.3 percent.

The annual term changes more than the price

On credit based tools the term changes how the allowance arrives. Browse AI states that annual plans deliver "all credits upfront," so the whole year's balance is available on day one rather than refilling monthly.

OpusClip's documentation says the same of its yearly plans: credits arrive in full "immediately upon purchase" and "will expire after 12 months," while monthly credits "expire in 60 days."

That front loading cuts both ways. A full year of credits is flexible, and it also means an unused balance expires on a fixed date rather than rolling forward month by month.

Browse AI adds a second term effect that has nothing to do with price. Its comparison table marks credit top ups "Annual plans only," so a monthly subscriber who runs short cannot buy more at any price.

The top up rate moves with the term as well, from "$0.024 per credit on annual plans" to "$0.030 per credit" monthly on Personal. The detail sits in what one page scrape really costs.

What cancelling an annual plan actually does

The pages are quieter here, and the one clear statement is not reassuring. OpusClip's documentation says remaining credits "will expire at their original expiration date, even if that is after your billing cycle ends."

Refund windows are the counterweight. Browse AI prints a "60-day refund guarantee" on both paid cards, and 10Web prints a "30-day money back guarantee" with the caveat that it "applies until you claim your free domain."

Trials cover the rest: Beautiful.ai offers a 14 day free trial of Pro or Team, OpusClip states "No credit card required," and Decktopus allows cancellation any time with no fees.

How to read an annual toggle in two minutes

  • Ignore the badge and find both prices. Multiply the monthly price by twelve, subtract the annual charge, and divide by the monthly year to get the real percentage.
  • Check the badge against your tier, not the headline tier, because Browse AI and Durable both apply one badge to plans with very different real discounts.
  • Look for a plan with no annual option at all, as OpusClip's Starter shows, since an "up to" badge can hide that.
  • Check whether the annual allowance arrives upfront and when it expires, because a year of credits on a fixed expiry date is not the same as twelve monthly refills.
  • Check whether top ups are restricted to annual plans before you choose monthly for flexibility, since on Browse AI that choice removes the safety valve entirely.
  • Note the refund window, which is the only real protection on an annual term: 60 days on Browse AI, 30 on 10Web, 14 day trials on Beautiful.ai.

That arithmetic is also the fastest way to spot a page that has not been maintained. Badges drift out of date more easily than prices, as the slide tools showed in Beautiful.ai versus Decktopus.

The same discipline applies to the unit behind the price, which is the subject of how to read an AI credit pricing page and how AI credits work at Jasper, Copy.ai, Synthesia and Pictory.

Frequently asked questions

Is annual billing always cheaper on AI tools?

On the seven pages we read, yes, but the size varies from 12 percent on Durable Launch to about 68 percent on Beautiful.ai Pro. The badge is often not the real figure.

Which badge was the most wrong?

Browse AI's, by size. Its "Annual Save 20%" badge is close on Professional at 20.7 percent but far off on Personal, where $48 monthly against $19 annually is about 60 percent.

Did any vendor overstate its discount?

Durable, on its most popular plan. The toggle claims 15 percent while Launch moves from $25 to $22 a month, which is 12 percent by editorial calculation. Grow, at 16.3 percent, beats the badge.

Do annual credits expire?

OpusClip's documentation states yearly credits arrive in full on purchase and expire after 12 months. Browse AI delivers annual credits upfront. Most other pages we read do not state an expiry rule.

Can I buy extra credits on a monthly plan?

Not on Browse AI, which marks top ups "Annual plans only" with a 1,000 credit minimum. Decktopus and OpusClip both offer top ups without restricting them to an annual term.

What protects me if I commit to a year?

The refund window. Browse AI prints a 60 day refund guarantee, 10Web a 30 day money back guarantee until you claim the free domain, and Beautiful.ai a 14 day free trial.

Bottom line

Treat the annual badge as decoration. Two of the seven vendors we read matched their own claim exactly, and the rest were out by enough to change a purchase decision in one direction or the other.

The two prices in the cards are the only numbers worth trusting, and the arithmetic takes thirty seconds. Every figure here is as of October 15, 2026, and every percentage is our own calculation from those printed prices.
