Descript vs VEED: AI Credits and Media Hours

VEED and Descript both sell AI editing by allowance, but they meter different things. VEED's Creator plan lists 6,000 credits and estimates about 1,500 AI videos from them. Descript lists 600 media minutes and 400 AI credits per editor on its entry paid tier. Both pricing pages were read on October 23, 2026, and one of them would not show its prices at all.

Descript vs VEED: AI Credits and Media Hours

VEED meters generation, Descript meters material. VEED's Creator plan lists 6,000 AI credits and estimates "~1,500 AI Videos" from them, which is a rate a buyer can divide.

Descript's entry paid tier lists 600 media minutes and 400 AI credits per editor per month, and media minutes are counted on everything imported or recorded, whether or not any AI touches it. Both pricing pages were read on October 23, 2026.

VEED's dollar figures were legible; Descript's were drawn by script and could not be read in the page markup, so they are not printed here.

VEED is the only one of the two that publishes a usable rate

VEED's plan cards pair every credit figure with an estimated output count, which makes the conversion the vendor's own rather than a guess.

  • Creator: $10 per user a month, "billed yearly as $116", 6,000 credits, "~1,500 AI Videos", no watermark, unlimited auto subtitles.
  • Pro: $21 per user a month, "billed yearly as $257", 30,000 credits, "~7,500 AI Videos", up to 144 hours a year of AI voice.
  • Studio: $35 per user a month, "billed yearly as $414", 180,000 credits, "~45,000 AI Videos", up to 960 hours a year of AI voice.
  • Enterprise: custom pricing with "Custom AI Credits" and no published figure.

Divide each pair and the rate is identical across all three tiers: four credits per AI video. That is an editorial calculation, but it is drawn from two numbers the vendor prints side by side.

A consistent rate is rarer than it sounds. The vendors surveyed in how AI credits work at Jasper, Copy.ai, Synthesia and Pictory mostly leave the division to the buyer.

VEED also charges per seat and says so plainly: plans "are charged on a 'per seat' basis so the amount of the plan is multiplied" by the number of seats bought.

Descript meters hours of material, not generations

Descript's two allowances measure different things, and its FAQ defines both. Media hours "track uploaded media files and media recorded in Descript, regardless of whether they're transcribed."

AI credits, by the same FAQ, "track your usage of AI features like Underlord, Studio Sound, Green Screen, Eye Contact, and AI-generated media and avatars." One allowance is for raw footage, the other for processing it.

  • Media minutes per editor, per month: 60 (1 hour) on Free, 600 (10 hours) on Hobbyist, 1,800 (30 hours) on Creator, 2,400 (40 hours) on Business.
  • AI credits per editor, per month: 400 on Hobbyist, 800 on Creator, 1,500 on Business; Enterprise is listed as custom.
  • Recording session hours per drive, per month: 2 on Free, 5 on Hobbyist, 15 on Creator, 25 on Business.
  • Top-ups for both media hours and AI credits are listed on Creator and Business only.

Nothing on the page converts an AI credit into an action. Studio Sound on a 40-minute recording and an avatar generation both draw credits, at rates the pricing page does not state.

That makes the 400-credit Hobbyist allowance unmeasurable from the pricing page alone. The same gap appears in Beautiful.ai and Decktopus slide credits, where one vendor publishes a rate and the other does not.

Descript's prices were not in the page markup

The plan cards on Descript's pricing page render a currency symbol with the amount injected after load. Two separate reads of the same URL on October 23, 2026 did not agree on the dollar figures.

A search of the raw markup found no price attribute, no JSON-LD offer and no USD amount anywhere near the plan cards. Rather than print a number one tool produced and the other could not confirm, no Descript price appears in this article.

This is a reading failure on our side, not a claim that Descript hides its prices. Anyone with a browser in a supported region will see them on the card. The allowances above were legible and are quoted as published.

Per-seat billing changes the bill before any credit is spent

Both vendors bill per person, so a three-editor team multiplies the headline price by three. VEED's published annual totals make that arithmetic exact.

By editorial calculation from the annual figures, three Creator seats come to $348 a year and three Pro seats to $771. Each seat brings its own credit pool rather than sharing one.

Descript works the same way on allowances, with media minutes and AI credits both stated per editor. Its recording session hours are the exception, listed per drive rather than per person.

Annual commitment is where VEED's discount sits, and its page advertises up to 51 percent against monthly billing. What that trade actually costs is unpacked in what annual billing on an AI tool saves.

Only VEED says what happens to leftovers

VEED's FAQ states that a plan "includes a set amount of AI credits each month or year", that the "full allowance refreshes when your subscription renews", and that "Credits do not carry over."

Topping up is framed as a tier change rather than a pack: moving "to a higher credit allowance on your current plan" works "like a normal subscription upgrade."

Descript's page offers top-ups on its two higher tiers but states nothing about expiry or rollover. Policies vary widely between vendors, as the comparison in what AI image credits actually buy shows.

VEED's unlimited subtitles come with a stated ceiling

The most quietly useful line on either page sits in VEED's subtitle FAQ: "All paid plans include unlimited subtitle generation, subject to a fair use limit of 50 hours per month."

That is how unlimited is usually built. The word sits in the feature list, and the number sits in the FAQ, and the number is the one that governs.

Fifty hours a month is generous for a solo editor and tight for an agency running several clients through one seat. Transcription ceilings behave the same way in Otter and Fathom free plan limits.

Frequently asked questions

How many videos does VEED's 6,000-credit plan make?

VEED estimates about 1,500 AI videos from the Creator plan's 6,000 credits, which works out to four credits per video. The same ratio holds on Pro at 30,000 credits for about 7,500 videos and on Studio at 180,000 for about 45,000.

What counts against Descript media hours?

Everything imported or recorded. Descript's FAQ says media hours track uploaded and recorded media "regardless of whether they're transcribed", so unused footage consumes the allowance exactly as edited footage does.

Which plan is better value per editor?

That cannot be answered from these pages. VEED publishes both prices and an output rate; Descript publishes allowances but its prices were not readable in the page markup on October 23, 2026, so no cost per hour can be calculated.

Is VEED's unlimited subtitle generation really unlimited?

No. The feature list says unlimited, and the FAQ caps it at a fair use limit of 50 hours per month across all paid plans. The ceiling is published, which is better than most unlimited claims.

Do VEED credits roll over to the next month?

No. The FAQ states the full allowance refreshes at renewal and that credits do not carry over. Buying more means moving to a higher credit allowance on the same plan rather than purchasing a one-off pack.

Does Descript charge per editor or per workspace?

Per editor for allowances. Media minutes and AI credits are both listed per editor per month, while recording session hours are listed per drive, so a second seat adds its own pool of both.

Bottom line

VEED's page is the better-behaved pricing document. It prints a price, an allowance and an estimated output, and it puts the ceiling on its unlimited feature in writing.

Descript's allowances are clear and its two-currency model is honest about the difference between footage and processing, but a credit with no published rate cannot be budgeted before you subscribe.

Before either subscription, work out whether your constraint is hours of raw material or number of generations. Those are not the same problem, and these two vendors each solve only one of them.
